tv update goes live!

yesterday we released an update for the apple tv, launching some new features (i was only involved in the third party remote support). i work on a lot of "cooler" things but this is our only project that isn't a team effort, it was all me. although there will be more releases, this first one will always be special. i cracked open a bottle of bubbly in celebration of the success. cheers!

oil change

i'm on an oil change high. i would never have thought that i would ever change my own oil but i did it and it felt awesome. my car drives smoother and knowing that i changed the oil myself just makes me feel so much more satisfied. i've learned so much and without a good teacher (and the help of a headlamp), there's just no way i would have even known where to begin let alone have the confidence to do it.

i was so proud that today at work i told everyone about my accomplishment but much to my surprise, i got a lot of, "this was your first time? oh, congrats" like it was an experience that should have happened ages ago. i mean, come on people! it wasn't brain surgery but this is no easy task. they were more impressed by my ability to change the water bottle for the water cooler. is changing your own oil more common than i thought? i guess i come from a place where car maintenance is something you don't do yourself. but i didn't let them get me down. i'm still super proud of myself. jacking up the car, putting it on a jack stand, draining the oil, changing out the filter...man, i'm reliving the excitement just thinking about it. hooray for me! it saves me some money, guarantees me full synthetic oil and it's fun. i can't wait to do it again!

fav bloody mary

ok, so i found my favorite bloody mary. spicy and topped with
asparagus and green beans made with fresh ingrediants. i'm convinced, horseradish is the key. 540 is where it's at.

i'm an egg snob

growing up i never ate eggs unless they were prepared sunny side up over some rice with soy sauce. i grew up not liking eggs for no apparent reason. if eggs were a part of my meal, i would usually get them scrambled and pawn them off to whoever i was eating with. in my head i just never really cared for them.

in the last few years, i realized that i actually like all kinds of eggs - sunny sided up, over easy, hard boiled - just not scrambled. and more recently, i had a epiphany that i just don't like eggs that are cooked after their whites and yellows have been mixed. it makes sense! no omelets, no scrambled eggs, no korean egg soufflé and even french toast. it just tastes different.

however, of course there are exceptions. these eggs don't make me gag or anything and i'd rather eat than starve so if someone makes me scrambled eggs or an omelet, i won't be rude and not eat them. also, breakfast burritos. i don't order them that often but the scrambled eggs don't overpower the meats and potatoes so i don't mind as much. plus, it's kinda weird saying, "one breakfast burrito, no egg".

does this make me an egg racist, not wanting to have my whites and yellows mixed and then cooked? do they really taste different? maybe i had a traumatic experience with scrambled eggs as a kid and somehow now subconsciously hate the egg being mixed. i don't know. i realize that this is extremely shocking news to a lot of people, i've actually found it to be quite a disappointment to some. who knows, things might change in the future but for whatever reason, it's strange but true.

fat man in a little coat

i think it's crucial to know what type of person you are and to be self aware, mostly for your own benefit. knowing how to handle yourself and what you need from your loved ones is something very important in order to be happy and comfortable with you as an individual. i realize that many people live their lives without knowing who they really are. they never take the time to self reflect. because of this, they force themselves to be someone that they're really not and sadly, they don't even realize it. they're just happy being a fat man in a little coat. i'm constantly learning about my own needs and hope that i'm growing and working towards being completely true to myself.
