chatty cathy
some people just talk too damn much. i ask, "how was the movie?" and he interprets it as, "give me a detailed summary about the movie please". i don't get it. some people just keep going without any feedback or follow up questions. in my mind, i'm expecting a 10 word response MAX but i get a 10 minute response? oh hell no. i feel like it's pretty obvious to know when a person is interested in lengthening the dialog and wants you to continue talking. you know, like having a conversation where all parties involved participate in the exchanging of words. if i'm not asking any follow up questions, i'm not interested in what you're saying so wrap it up already and land your plane. i get so annoyed mid speech that i can no longer hear them and can only think about how to escape this interaction. at this point i regret even asking in the first place! i walk away at the first chance i get and while i'm totally relieved, i feel sorta guilty for not being invested at all. but really, it's their fault! don't people get those social cues? had i asked one question just to be polite, well, that would instantly be an extra 10 minute commitment there. good grief!

the runner in me
work is hosting a nike+ cardio challenge and i'm happy to report that i reached my milestone with 6 days to spare! the challenge is from 5/23 to 7/4 and i set my goal at 75 miles. this is impressive only because i absolutely hate running. here's a picture of my nike+ avatar i created. does it really look like i'm half korean, half indian?

fix-a-windshield
last week i witnessed a rock hit molly's windshield, which left her a nasty chip. i've been up to my ears in little car repairs these days so this angered me quite a bit. the chip would eventually spread into a big crack and the thought of having my windshield replaced made me want to punch someone. but god must have heard my prayers because the next day at lunch this exact topic randomly came up with a co-worker and he told me about fix-a-windshield! i tried to take a pic of the end result but seriously couldn't find where it used to be. i'm totally amazed!

no pants for you
i don't know why i keep insisting on going to this one particular alteration place to get my pants hemmed. i haven't noticed anything stellar about their work or service but i'm the type of girl that, if something isn't super bad, i stick around until there's a concrete reason not to. plus, the owners are korean, which was my initial draw to the place. gotta support your peeps, right? a couple saturdays ago i dropped off some new jeans to be hemmed and told her i would be back the following saturday. the whole week i thought about my new jeans, excited as shit to get them back and wear them. i was so excited that when saturday had finally come, even though i was totally hung over (burps still tasting like the tequila i was drinking the night before), i walked to the place to pick them up. i got there, handed her my pick up ticket and...she couldn't find them. how could she not find my jeans?! i mean, this is a place that specializes in a service where clothes are left there and then returned back to the owner after repair is done. at first i thought it was a ploy to have me come back later in the day because she had forgotten to hem them but it wasn't. the jeans were officially lost!
so here it is, the situation that has given me assurance that this place sucks. korean or not, i can't risk coming back. i always thought these kinds of incidences were just funny stories where i would laugh at other people's misfortune, never imagining that it would be me, sad and jean-less.

on the radio

it's always great to have your ipod on shuffle to re-discover old favs.
"this is how it works
you're young until you're not
you love until you don't
you try until you can't
you laugh until you cry
you cry until you laugh
and everyone must breathe
until their dying breath
no, this is how it works
you peer inside yourself
you take the things you like
and try to love the things you took
and then you take that love you made
and stick it into some
someone else's heart
pumping someone else's blood
and walking arm in arm
you hope it don't get harmed
but even if it does
you'll just do it all again"

microfinancing
i admit, i don't have a huge compassionate heart for worldly events like i do with things involving family and close friends. however, my friend told me about kiva and since it's based in san francisco, it got my attention.kiva is a group that works with microfinancing institutions to lend out money in poor countries to those who need to fix or enhance their business to make their living. this is no donation, it's a loan so they agree to pay back what they borrowed.
this really sparked my eye because, like many people in this world, i'm a big advocate of hard work and independance. i think it's amazing that people in these countries don't want a hand out and instead, choose to be resourceful. they believe in themselves and want to work hard to survive and provide for their families. i give them much respect for this.
if you're interesting in lending, all you do is pick a person you want to help and that's it! you can search the site by country, gender, type of business and if you're looking to support an individual or group. all the information is there, you can read a little blurb about that person's background and the reason why they need the money. it was hard to determine who i wanted to lend to - and you don't have to pick just one - but i finally found a profile that reached out to me.

locker 480
the gym at my work has limited personal lockers. it's advised to get on the waiting list right when you join in hopes of getting a locker within a couple years. two months ago i received an email with the subject title "available locker". i literally screamed "YESSSSSS" and proceeded to go around my department bragging about my soon-to-be personal locker.
the personal locker is great since it's dedicated to only you. but the best part of the deal is that they do your laundry! stick those stinky sweaty gym clothes in a mesh bag, drop them in the shute and the very next day you can find that bag back in your locker with everything washed. now, this is the first gym i've belonged to and didn't even realize that having unlimited towels was a major perk. so, having this laundry service is making me feel like a celebrity!
this is definitely a life changing moment for me. no more shlepping my gym bag back and forth on the bus, no more travel sized toiletries for my after workout shower. i've got a shower caddy with full sized soap and shampoo. everything i need is in locker 480.

mid week bowling
serra bowl is my kind of bowling alley and bowling is the best rainy day activity. forget all these new fancy shmancy places like lucky strike. bring on the nachos, fries and cheap beer! (the cafe also had filipino food since you know, it's daly city)

toast, upside down
i like to eat my peanut butter toast peanut butter side down. it's more enjoyable when the peanut butter side hits your tongue rather than the roof of your mouth. it makes quite the difference.

on the way to the shuttle stop this morning, i saw a man taking pictures of a ginormous stuffed dog next to a parking meter. strange but what isn't in sf? lo and behold, a post from mission mission!
