late bloomer

this is our starbucks icup machine. it dispenses regular or decaf coffee in whatever size you choose. it's pretty cool because it grinds the coffee beans right then and there per request. it also dispenses hot chocolate just like 7-11 does!

i'm a tea drinker so i don't benefit from this machine at all because i never drink coffee. literally, the last time i did was probably my third year in college. but getting coffee at work is such a social event, almost like smoking. i sometimes feel less cool not being a part of that and more importantly, i'm missing out on all the potential shmoozing i should be doing! but who starts drinking coffee at the age of 28?

i don't know why exactly but i needed an extra pick-me-up this morning and felt the urge to try it. i used the icup machine to make a half coffee, half hot chocolate mix and boom. loved it. the coffee buzz is way stronger than what my usual 2 cups of green tea provide. what a cheap, legal way to get high at work. this may be the start of a new addiction.

key combos

one thing that i have really gotten into since converting to a mac user is the keyboard shortcuts. other than to move the cursor or scroll, i rarely find myself needing to use the mouse/trackpad. everything that i need to get to is a mere key combo away. opening system preferences, opening a finder window, launching applications, navigating within safari, executing expose functions, etc.

i'm not a big fan of minimizing windows on my desktop. why? because when apps are minimized, command+tab doesn't bring that window to the foreground which annoys me. you have to go to your dock to bring it back and that means extra mouse/trackpad usage. on my first day of orientation, i learned about the "hide" feature in osx and ever since i've been hooked. a simple command+H "hides" that app if i don't need it and allows me to command+tab it back when i do.

i feel like i have less wrist pains since using a mac and i think it's due to all the wonderful, maybe excessive, keyboard shortcuts that are available in osx.

back to the basics

sometimes when i see something like this, i think back to when i first moved here. i take a deep breath and for a moment i relive all the excitement and disbelief. i feel so proud and it makes me smile.
